Through the centuries the castle has never been substantially changed. In fact, it was allowed to progressively degrade without anyone maintaining it until 2004, when the Ferro family decided to buy it and develop it into a magnificent and very particular high class Hotel and Restaurant, while maintaining the existing structure intact.
Our building is in Chiavenna Landi, a small village in the municipality of Cortemaggiore.
The castle is in a strategic location since it is nearby the most important attractions in the area, such as the historical centre of Piacenza, where you can admire the Palazzo Farnese, the Cathedral, Piazza Dei Cavalli, the San Savino Basilica, the Sant'Antonino Basilica and much more...;the Medieval villages of the old Duchy of Parma and Piacenza: Castell'Arquato, Vigoleno, Grazzano Visconti, Rivalta, Gropparello, San Pietro in Cerro, the fortress of D'Olgisio, the Cistercense di Chiaravalle della Colomba Abbey (a meeting place for pilgrims travelling along Via Francigena), the Bardi fortress, the Rocca di Fontanellato, Colorno Palace, Bianca Castle fortress, the fortress of Soragna, Torre Chiara Castle and many other historical monuments...The building is also just a few kilometres away from area where the famous opera composer Giuseppe Verdi came from.
If you love shopping, just a few kilometres away there is one of the Italy’s best outlets (the Fidenza Village), which is currently being enlarged, and which has many of the most important designer clothes at discount prices of up to 70% lower than full price.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CASTLE
The first news regarding the Chiavenna Landi castle dates back to 1200, as evidenced by the citation in the Registrum Magnum and certain important features such as the corbels located at the top which support the watch walkways, the openings of the embrasures and the Ghibellina type battlements.
The beautiful tower, which overall has been well preserved, seems like the fist part of the castle to have been constructed. It was built as a tactical outpost to oppose troops from Cremona; at the time these territories were subjected to threatening incursions and raids. We must also mention a stay by Federico I, who was called Barbarossa (Red Beard), in the Chiavenna Landi castle; at that time he had come down to Italy for his coronation in Pavia. This period also saw the convening of the first of the two Roncaglia imperial Diets.
The castle remained the property of the Landi family until this century, when the Marquise Teresa gave it as part of a dowry to Count Cigala Fulgosi, who in turn sold it in 1941 to the family of the notary Livio Cattadori.
